The newly appointed chairman of Gombe State Sports Commission, Dr Olanre Daniel, has promised to turn around the fortunes of sporting activities in the state through partnership with the private sectors and individuals.

Dr Olanre made this known in his office while addressing journalists as he assumed duty officially.

He said sport is the major unifying factor and a money-making venture, hence the need for corporate organisations, financial institutions, construction firms among others to invest hugely in the sector for the betterment of the people especially the youth.

“Through the sports, you can keep the youths, make them busy and take them off social vices,” he added.

He commended media organisations for promoting sporting activities in the state, saying sports are interwoven with the media, hence the need for a stronger synergy towards publicising the activities of the commission.

He used the medium to call on all and sundry, more especially the private firms, construction companies in the state and service providers to support the sporting activities in Gombe so that the name Gombe and sports would go higher and higher.

He said government alone cannot not shoulder the burdens of sports, as there are other sectors that also need the attention of the government.

“If partners come in and contribute, Gombe will produce more talented players, because the state is blessed with abundant talents plying their trades within and outside the country.

The sports commission’s boss commended the previous leadership for doing its best in moving sporting activities forward, promising to continue from where they stopped.
