Sports can be rehabilitation tool for wounded soldiers – Prince Harry

Britain’s Prince Harry has identified sport as a useful way for the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers in Nigeria.

The prince, who disclosed this when he visited Governor Uba Sani at Government House, Kaduna, on Friday, said the focus of his visit was to meet with the wounded and sick men and women who served in the Nigerian armed forces.

He explained that when he founded Invictus Games for wounded soldiers over 10 years ago, Nigeria was the only African nation that joined the game with 10 participants.

“The focus of this trip is the wounded and sick men and women who served in the Nigerian forces to keep the people safe, and having founded the Invictus game over 10 years ago, Nigeria was the first African nation to join in Germany with 10 fantastic human beings.”

“When you talk about lifting the spirits, that is what we are here to do, and we will build on that morale and ensure that anyone hooked on the line of fire, despite being injured, is not alone, and sport can be a useful way for rehabilitation,” he said.

Earlier, Governor Sani told the visiting Prince that Nigeria and the United Kingdom have a long-standing relationship.

According to him, in the forging of Nigeria-British relations, Kaduna hosted some of the most prominent political and administrative officers from colonial times to the attainment of Nigeria’s independence in 1960.

He explained that the first British Governor of Northern Nigeria, Sir Frederick Lugard, chose to operate from Kaduna due to its proximity to the Lagos-Kano Railway.

“I wish to specially thank you for identifying with the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and for your commitment to inspiring and supporting our troops. Your visit will definitely lift the spirits of our brave and resilient officers and men and women of the Armed Forces,” he said.
