Samuel Ajibola took to Instagram to announce his departure from The Johnsons, a family soap opera aired on Africa Magic.

The award-winning Nollywood actor is known for his comic role as Spiff in one of Nigeria’s long-running family sitcom which tells a story of an average Nigerian family.

“For about 10 years now, I have sacrificed my time, dedicated my life, as well as all of the God-given creativity within me to serving the Spiff character on The Johnsons television series which undoubtedly for me has fulfilled its purpose in bringing entertainment, happiness, and joy to the African continent as well as also bringing therapeutic healings to the bodies and minds of our people from several testimonies I’ve heard,” he said in a video posted on his verified Instagram account.

He said it was a tough decision for him but “nothing lasts forever and everything that has a beginning definitely has an ending. The time has finally come for me to move on and grow into other purposes as I’m in search of new challenges and other ways to entertain our people through other various projects.”

He however said he did not quit acting, “It only means that I’m making more time in order to fulfil other purposes and to do other things.”

One of the lead characters in the comedy series, Mr Lucky Johnson, interpreted by Charles Inojie, while responding to the Instagram message said, “Great luck in ur future endeavours. #wemove.”

Also, Ada Ameh (Mrs Emu Johnson) replied, “You know I hate the fact that I am going miss you son I can’t wait!! The sky is your beginning.”

While Chinedu Ikedieze (Efetobore Johnson) said, “All the best brotherly. The family will surely miss you. #HigherYouGo.”

Ajibola is yet to make known his new project.
