Speculators encroaching, stealing Kwara Poly lands -Rector

Authorities of the Kwara State Polytechnic on Tuesday raised the alarm that land grabbers have encroached on the institution’s allocated land.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Abdul Muhammed, said this in Ilorin, the state capital ahead of the commencement of the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 convocation ceremonies of the institution.

He said that land speculators have equally been selling the polytechnic’s land illegally to unsuspecting members of the public.

“It is disgusting to report that most of the important land facilities and training farms have been taken over by land encroaches. Illegal private houses are meters away from classrooms, sports arena and other Polytechnic facilities are such that, at times the noise from their mortal when they are preparing pounded yam meals is heard in our lecture rooms disturbing lectures.

“Staff clubs are in the center of illegal private buildings; staff quarters are immediate near private building.

“We therefore call for immediate intervention of the Visitor of the Polytechnic to find lasting solution to this illegality which threatens peace on and limits future expansion of the institution” Muhammed said.

He also said that due to epileptic power supply to the institution, the school is planning to opt out of the national grid of electricity supply.

The polytechnic chief said the institution would adopting solar as its major source of power supply.

“As such five units of Al 60W Hybrid Lam Heed (Solar Powered Street Light) was provided to illuminate the center at night.

“Another 10K Hybrid Inverter was provided to power essential Laboratory equipment and all the offices in the clinic 24/7. All the medical laboratory testing equipment that has been down for long were repaired to serve the staff, students and members

of neighboring communities,” he said.
