Two principal officers of the Kano State House of Assembly have been sacked from their respective positions by 22 out of 40 members of the house, Daily Trust can report.

The affected officers include Chief Whip of the house, Alhaji Labaran Abdu Madari and Deputy Majority Leader, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu respectively.

Subsequently, the two officers were replaced with Alhaji Abdullahi Iliyasu Yaryasa as chief whip and Alhaji Kabiru Hassan Dashi as deputy majority leader respectively, while Alhaji Abdulaziz Garba Gafasa was reaffirmed as majority leader of the house.

Addressing a press conference at the premises of the House of Assembly, the former Speaker of house, Alhaji Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, who led the aggrieved lawmakers to the house, said that so far 22 members had affixed their signatures in support of impeachment of the incumbent Speaker, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata.

He said although armed security personnel were deployed to the assembly to stop them from gaining access into the chamber, however, he assured that nothing would stop them from removing the speaker.

He said, “We are acting within the ambit of law. We are law abiding citizens and therefore we will not engage the security personnel because they are also working in accordance with the laws of the land.
We will respect the rule of law but we will not allow anybody to stop us from exercising our constitutional rights.

“We will go ahead with the impeachment move until we get the required number and remove Ata. When I was accused of corruption, I have resigned and allowed the house to investigate me. Ata should also go and allow the house to continue with its activities. We are in democratic dispensation.”

Daily Trust observed that security was beefed up at the premises of the assembly as more security personnel including police, civil defence corps and DSS were deployed to the place yesterday.
