The youth in Southern Kaduna have been urged to acquire new skills.
The call was made by Dr. Cyril Afuwai of Geophysics Department of Kaduna State University (KASU) at a one-day ceremony for elected/appointed government officials in Kaura LGA organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kaura chapter.
Dr. Afuwai also called on political leaders to promote quality education by restoring reading culture among youths through the establishment of traditional and e-libraries and the provision of scholarship for bright students.
Speaking on the role of youths in promoting good governance, the Provost, City College of Health Science and Technology, Zaria, Obadiah Sankyai said youth inclusion in Nigeria’s politics has become very critical, adding that it is a great machinery for reinventing the country’s governance structure.
Sankyai cautioned against political thuggery and drug abuse, stressing that only responsible youths can deliver when given the opportunity.
The Divisional Police Officer, C’ Division in Plateau State, CSP Yusuf Musa Lyabityak called on government to engage community and youth leaders to attain lasting solution to insecurity.
He also urged government to provide employment for the youths, noting that ethnic and religious differences, unemployment and poverty are the major causes of the rising cases of insecurity in the country.
The Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kaura LG chapter, Comrade Istifanus Ayuba, said the objective of the event was for the youth to interact with the elected and appointed officials of the local government.
