This was the advice of Pastor Chris Torti of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Glorious Assembly Parish, Gwagwalada, Abuja, in a sermon entitled, “The Soul, Spirit and the Body.”

According to him, “The soul is the nonphysical aspect of a person where emotional and moral nature as well as private thoughts of humans are hidden.”

The cleric said the human soul would never die and should be taken care of.

Quoting from Romans 12, he suggested, “Christians should not live in conformity with the world as things of the world are opposite to the spirit of a genuine Christian.”

He added that Christians should read, practice the word of God and also be prayerful.

The pastor encouraged Christians not to fear he who kills the body but cannot kill the soul as there is punishment for the soul that sins, making reference to Esther 3:18 in the Bible.

Torti added, “The body is the outward man. It is mortal and would certainly die; it is made out of dust,” quoting Genesis 2:7.

However, the cleric said the body should also be taken care of and should be kept clean as cleanliness is next to Godliness.

He admonished Christians to look for something to do in order to be able to eat what is good for the body.

He added that marriage is instituted for the body and sex is allowed only in marriage.

“When you fornicate, it leads to spiritual death and apart from spiritual death, there are sexually transmitted diseases which kill the body,” he stressed.
