SON raises alarm over circulation of substandard lubricants in Kano

The Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) has raised alarm over increase in substandard lubricants in circulation in Kano markets.

The Kano/Jigawa Coordinator of the organization, Yunusa B. Muhammad, raised the alarm during a compliance and enforcement operation yesterday in markets and warehouses of major dealers in the state.

Muhammad said the enforcement operation was sequel to the surveillance carried out earlier, following some tiff-offs with regard to the circulation of the substandard products in the markets across the country which prompted the organization to swing into action in order to salvage the situation.

“Today’s outing is specifically designed to take cognizance of the fact that we have an increase in the substandard lubricants. We have conducted surveillance recently where we subjected a number of lubricants to market survey and laboratory test and a number of them failed,” he said

“So we are in the shops and other places where these substandard products were found to mop them up, but due to some logistics, the best thing we can do now is to lock them up.”

Some of the affected businesses were SACLUX Industries Ltd at Sabon Gari market and EXIM IMPEX warehouse along Maganda road where such unregistered products were found.

He therefore warn erring marketers that the organization would not relent in its effort to ensure that substandard products were mopped out of market and urged the public to always look out for the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) number and logo to ensure that they purchased                standard and certified products.
