The Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, has engaged stakeholders in Kaduna on proper building measures to avert further building collapse.
This is as a result of the recent cases of building collapse being witnessed in the country.
Speaking at the sensitization programme organised by SON in collaboration with Leading Ideas International Limited, the Director General, SON, Osita Aboloma assured Nigerians that the organization was putting measures in place aimed at ensuring that the rising cases of buildings collapse in the country stopped.
Represented by the SON Regional Coordinator North West, Abba Adamu (Galaje of Bauchi), he said the Federal Government was worried about incidents of building collapse, adding that: “We support government policies through quality assurance because lives and property are being protected.
According to him, “We educate people that they should follow due process when searching for land for the proposed building and ensure that they use professionals as each professional bodies has ways of dealing with detractors, a move that will stop the use of quacks.”
In an interview with newsmen, State Coordinator, SON Kaduna, Mr. Emmanuel Datti said that the sensitization programmes was important because collapsed building incidents were becoming a daily affair, adding that “when it happens, lots of lives and property are lost.”
