Son arrested as father stabbed to death

A 19-year-old man, Abba Yusuf, suspected to have allegedly killed his 60-year-old  father, Alhaji Dahiru Yusuf, in the Sarkin-Noma area of Lokoja, Kogi State capital, at the weekend has been  arrested.

The state police command confirmed the arrest of the suspect to the City and Crime on Monday in Lokoja.

City and Crime gathered that the late Yusuf was stabbed to death by his son in their family house at around 8.30pm on Saturday in a scuffle.

Thereafter, the suspect was said to have fled to an undisclosed location to evade arrest.

According to the state police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Williams Aya, the operatives got a distress call at 9pm over the incident on Saturday, but met the deceased in a pool of blood at his compound in Sarki-Noma area, Lokoja.

The “DCO/TEAM were dispatched to the scene where the lifeless body of Alhaji Dahiru Yusuf (deceased)  was met lying in a pool of his blood with multiple stab wounds all over his body.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was stabbed by his two sons, Abba Yusuf, Aminu Yusuf and his divorced wife, one Hajia Jummai, as a result of a prolonged domestic matrimonial misunderstanding.

“Further information revealed that both sons have severally robbed the deceased of millions of naira to buy iPhones

“Eye witness testified that the deceased repeatedly called out “Abba! Abba! as a dying declaration before he passed away at Ashafa Hospital, Lokoja”, SP Aya said.

While he added that a knife and blood stained clothes were recovered at the scene of the incident, SP Aya added, “Abba Yusuf has been arrested, while efforts are on to arrest other fleeing suspects.”
