Soldiers take over Imo govt house

Douglas House, the seat of Imo state government, was on Wednesday barricaded by heavily armed soldiers to prevent #ENDSARS protesters from gaining entrance into the governor’s office.

The soldiers had arrived early in the morning to take strategic positions, as the curfew imposed on the state by the governor took effect.

Residents had trooped out in the morning, oblivious of the government pronouncement as the Governor Uzodimma’s broadcast came late Tuesday evening.

Many school children had taken advantage of the early-morning transportation to get to school on time before they were asked to go home by their school authorities.

Although no ugly incident was recorded, some youth tried to burn the Ihiagwa police station, but the calm disposition and pleas from the policemen saved the day.

However by late afternoon, many residents hurried home to avert any ugly situation as anti-riot policemen took positions to enforce the 24-hour curfew announced by the governor.
