The disagreement over who will man the entrance gate of the Aba/Port Harcourt road office of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers state has brought soldiers and policemen deployed to the headquarters of state’s INEC into a heated verbal exchange.

The soldiers deployed from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt had wanted to take over the entrance gate of the Commission’s office but were resisted by the police who claimed that it was their responsibility to man the gate.

The disagreement led to a standoff at the main entrance gate of the Commission.

While the standoff lasted, canisters of teargas were fired by the police , a development that forced people within the entrance  gate especially Journalists to scamper for safety.

In the meantime, collation of results is yet to start at the Commission as at the time of filing this report.
