Soldiers have gunned down a suspected bandit while attempting to evade arrest at Jere, Kaduna State.
A community leader from the area confirmed the incident to our reporter through telephone on Wednesday.
He said the suspected bandits had been declared wanted by the troops over a month ago, adding that luck ran out of him after he boarded a vehicle from Tafa town and alighted at Jere.
He said a resident who sighted the suspect at Tafa town when he boarded a vehicle to Jere, alerted the troops at Jere.

He said, “Upon getting to Jere town, the suspect alighted from the vehicle he boarded from Tafa and when he saw the soldiers coming towards the vehicle, he took to his heels and one of the soldiers shot him dead on the spot.”
A security source from Jere, who preferred anonymity, also confirmed the killing of the suspected bandit, who he said had been evading arrest for over a month.
The spokesman of the state police command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached for comment on the incident.
