Three militia linked to a wanted militia leader Terwase Akwaza popularly known as “Ghana”, have been killed in a gunfight with military forces, following a tip-off.
The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Major General, Adeyemi Yekini, says his troops in Zaki Biam were alerted that militia men loyal to Gana had launched attack on a part of the town with intent to kill and loot, so the soldiers swiftly responded.
Three of the militia men were neutralized and two weapons including ammunitions were recovered.
Last Thursday, Zaki Biam came under heavy attack from armed militia men, leading to the killing of three persons including a police officer.
Operatives of OPWS, back by air support, quelled the situation.
Sequel to the attack on Zaki Biam, the force commander disclosed at a news conference during the weekend that a subsection of Operation Whirl Stroke was established in the town to further forestall the militias from taking innocent lives.
