Soldiers foil abduction of passengers on Abuja-Kaduna road

Soldiers have foiled the abduction of some passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna highway near Gadan-Malam, a few kilometres away from Don-Fili community in Kaduna State.

A community leader in the area said the incident happened on Sunday around 6pm when bandits emerged from the bush and attempted to whisk away the passengers of an 18-seater bus.

He said the bus rammed into a pothole and that one of the tyres busted which brought it to a standstill.

He further said, “The driver and passengers alighted. While trying to change the tyre, bandits emerged, but the swift intervention of troops made the bandits flee.”

A security source, who confirmed the incident, said, “The quick intervention of the soldiers saved the passengers from being abducted. The troops waited till the driver changed the tyre and left.”

The spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached for comment on the incident.
