Troops of the Nigerian Army stationed in Mainok, Borno State, on Wednesday engaged in a gun battle with suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Sources said the insurgents came into the village around 7pm and embarked on sporadic shooting saying, “They went straight to the military base and for about an hour, they were in a gunfight with the troops.”
The military was yet to respond over the development, but sources said it was investigating the situation.
B/Haram: NAF to deploy additional troops to N/E – CAS
Meanwhile, the Chief Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, has assured that the Nigeria Airforce will soon deploy more troops to consolidate ongoing efforts against Boko Haram insurgents in the North East region.
He gave the assurance during an operational visit and commissioning of some projects at the headquarters of Air Task Force of Operations Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
He applauded the Air Task Operations of Lafiya Dole for flying 1690 hours and completing 889 missions against Boko Haram insurgents in the first quarter.
“The security challenge is an obstacle to our development, we must fight to ensure those values dear to our heart are preserved. I am happy we are making substantial progress in the fight against insurgency.
“We are very excited about how the air task force flew 1690hours, 889 missions, and 33 targets were recorded in the first quarter of 2020.
“We are going to consolidate by creating enabling environment and making welfare a priority.
“The NAF will continue to do its best. Some of the projects we are commissioning will increase the number of personnel, to deal more punch against the insurgents until they are completely wiped out of our nation,” he said.
