A soldier guarding expatriates working with the engineering firm handling the Onna-Etinan dual Carriage way in Akwa Ibom State yesterday shot a judiciary worker over right of way.

The worker, whose name was given as Godwin Udoka, was driving the judiciary bus and then ran into a Hilux van belonging to Wizchino Engineering (WE) Limited with registration number, ABC 222 AY.

This led a serious argument, thereby making the soldier to come down and order the judiciary worker to give way. When the worker refused, the soldier shot at him, a witness Effiong Akpan said.

“Sympathizers later came and took the victim to the University Teaching Hospital (UUTH), and he is currently receiving medical attention at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital,” Akpan said.

The victim’s son, Itoro, said his father has lost a lot of blood and could barely speak because the bullets pierce through his nostrils and part of his eyes.

Meanwhile, chairman of the Akwa Ibom State branch of Judiciary Staff Union, Mbebe Albert, who confirmed the incident, said the action of the soldier was unprofessional and irresponsible.

He vowed to go the extra mile to secure justice on the matter.

The police were not immediately available for comment.
