Efforts towards improving equal access to education for boys and girls have received a boost in Sokoto State with foundation laid for construction of a co-educational international school in the state.
The N1.2 billion Government Secondary School is located in Gudu which was the only local government Area in Sokoto state without a senior secondary institution.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal who laid the foundation, said the school was also aimed at improving enrollment, retention and completion of students across the state.
The governor described education as key to success, reiterating the determination of his administration to revamp the sector.
Tambuwal said the school would attract students from across Sokoto, other states of Nigeria and neighbouring Niger republic, and that the project would be completed in the next four months.
Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar , lauded the project, describing illiteracy as a disease.
