The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned attacks on properties belonging to its members by political thugs suspected to be supporters of former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Daily Trust learnt that among the properties attacked by the thugs was the residence of the immediate past Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu where seven vehicles including an 18-seater bus and Prado Jeep belonging to the Ministry were vandalized.
Others were the Atiku Abubakar Campaign office along Maiduguri road and the residence of Alhaji Mustafa Sarkin Alhazzai at Gobirawa area where the hoodlums allegedly carted away assorted phones worth N600,000 from a shop attached to the house.
The manager of the shop, 3C HUB, Isma’il Adekeyi, said the hoodlums attacked the shop on Sunday and stole 17 new phones from the shop worth N599,000.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Abdullahi Hausawa, the PDP accused the defactor leader of APC in the state of directing the thugs to carry out the act because they were part of his entourage when he paid multiple condelolence visits to those areas.
According to them, it was a planned assault targeting their leaders and members.
They, however, demanded that the perpetrators of this dastardly act should be brought to book no matter how highly placed in order to stem the ugly trend.
“The APC and Senator Wamakko should endeavour to endear themselves to the good people of Sokoto state, through humane and civilized manner, rather than resort to desperate tactics that threaten the lives and property of the citizens,” it added.
The party called on the good, law-abiding, peace loving people of Sokoto State to remain calm and maintain order.
It also called on the State Police Command and other security agencies in the state to take urgent steps to mitigate this deliberately created scenario of terror by the APC and its leader.
Reacting to the allegations, the state chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Isa Achida, said the party was not involved in the mayhem, saying it was a factional fight between PDP’s members.
According to him, it was a fight between supporters of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and that of former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa which coincided with the visit of Senator Aliyu Magakarada Wamakko who paid condolences to some bereaved families in the area.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Sokoto Police Command, DSP Cordelia Nwewe confirmed the attack saying the police is investigating the matter.
