An Assistant Inspector of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Sokoto State Command, Nafi’u Wamakko has lost his life as joint security operatives rescued two persons who were kidnapped by suspected armed bandits in Sokoto.
The bandits were said to have raided Kursa-Gobirawa village in Rabah local government area of the state on Friday, killed two villagers, abducted two and carted away some valuable properties.
Members of the "Operation Harmony" a joint security operatives, comprising Police, Army, DSS and NSCDC, were said to have been alerted who went after the bandits, resulting in a gun battle with them.
The spokesman of the Command, Hamza Illela told Daily Trust that the deceased who was a driver lost his life during the gun battle.
The state Commandant of NSCDC, Alhaji Babangida Abdullahi Dutsinma while confirming this said some of the bandits had escaped with gun shots, appealing to the general public to report any suspicious faces around their areas.
He said that the two abductees had been rescued alive while all the stolen property were recovered.
According to him, security operatives are on the trail of the bandits, assuring that they would be smoked out of their hidden places and brought to book.
He called on the people of the state, particularly those sharing border with the neighbouring Zamfara state to always be on alert and report any criminal activities to the security agents in time.
Illela said that the remains of the officer were buried according to the Islamic rites.
