Sokoto Govt. to establish 86 new junior secondary schools-Commissioner

Alhaji Jabbi Kilgore, Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, said the state government would establish 86 new Junior Secondary Schools across the state.

Kilgore spoke while addressing newsmen shortly after defending the ministry’s 2018 budget proposal before the state House of Assembly Committee on Education in Sokoto on Friday.

He said the proposal was in line with the government’s decision to declare a  a state of emergency in the education sector.

“Sokoto State Government is highly committed to ensuring a standard basic education, as such had declared a state of emergency on the sector.

“Moreover, education has been the top priority of the present administration as the highlights of the 2018 Budget proposal show that the largest share went to the sector with 26.10 per cent of the total budget,” Kilgore said.

The commissioner added that the ministry achieved a lot in 2017 in the area of training and re-training, employment of teachers and rehabilitation of schools among others.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Educatio, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, said the state government would establish a medical college in the state university to address the challenges of health personnel in the state.

He said the ministry would also focus on the accreditation of all courses offered at the Shehu Aliyu Shinkafi Polytechnic of Sokoto and relocation of College of Agriculture to its permanent site in Wurno.

The Committee Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Bala (APC- Bodinga South), commended the ministry’s commitment at ensuring a standard education in the state.
