The Sokoto State government yesterday said it would continue to partner with any Non Governmental Organisation ready to assist its citizens in the area of health, saying all the local government areas in the State are accessible to take health programmes to.
The deputy governor of the State, Idris Muhammad Gobir, stated this in Abuja while playing host to representatives of the New Incentive – All Babies Are Equal (NI-ABAE) initiative, a Non-Governmental Organisation.
Gobir, who said the government would ensure that vaccination and immunisation for both women and children get to all LGAs, also deplored reports from some quarters that insecurity is preventing people from accessing some LGAs in the state.
He said, “Sometimes, the way people talk about security issues in Sokoto State, the kind of magnitude sent to people is not up to that. I was in Sabo Birnin too last week, we can move around.

“I say look, if we can reach down to any of our polling units or make the kind of cluster elections during the elections, I don’t see reasons why, when it comes to health issues that we cannot reach the grassroots, we can also reach the grassroots.
“No area in Sokoto State somebody can tell me that it cannot be reached because of security reasons. People are living there. All these facilities, we have them, none of the facilities somebody can tell me that these facilities are shut down because of insecurity. Tell me one single facility that has shut down in Goronyo.”
Speaking earlier, the director of relations of NI-ABAE initiative, Nura Muhammad explained that both women and children coming for vaccination are usually being persuaded to come for it before they come out.
The programme officer of the organisation, Mubarak Bawa, while detailing how the project was going, disclosed that the organisation does give N1,000 each to any participant that comes for vaccination or immunisation.
He noted that the project would soon spread across the States so as to ensure healthy living for children and women, particularly pregnant women.
