Sokoto govt, Bill Gates to spend N494m on primary healthcare

Sokoto State government, Bill and Melinda Gates and Dangote Foundations have contributed N494 million for the development of primary healthcare in the state.
This was disclosed by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, while declaring open the 15th annual scientific conference of the National Association of the Peri-operative Nurses of Nigeria in Sokoto.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Buhari Kware, the governor said the state and Gates foundation had  released the sum of over N148 million and N173 million respectively with that of Dangote foundation still being awaited.
Tambuwal said the funds were  pooled under a quadruple agreement jointly signed by the parties and the Targeted High Impact States( TSHIP),Project which was aimed at improving health service delivery, especially in the rural areas.
He added that the agreement followed the recent signing of the Primary Health Care Development Agency Bill into law which he said would bring primary health care in the state under “one roof”.
The National President of the association,  Mr Adeyeni Babatunde said the conference would brainstorm on ways of improving standards of  practice towards increasing patients’ satisfaction through quality surgical nursing care.
The Sokoto State chairman of the association, Alhaji Aliyu Atiku, commended the state government for its sustained support to the association and its members.
