The Sokoto State governorship candidates are to sign peace accord ahead of the 2019 Governorship election in the state.

This was contained in a communiqué jointly signed by the chairman and secretary of Sokoto State Gubernatorial Candidates Forum (SOSGOCAF2019), Alhaji Sulaiman Aliyu of AD and  Malami Galma of ADC respectively.

The decision was to ensure the maintenance of peace before, during and after the election period.

The forum advised members to shun violence and use of abusive words during their campaigns.

It also cautioned members against attacking one another on social media platforms and encouraging political thuggery.

It called on the security agencies to evolve measures that would ensure peaceful and violent free campaigns in the state.

While resolving to support Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) towards having successful elections in the state, the members  urged it to be fair to all candidates.

The forum however, called on all those who registered to ensure they obtained their permanent voter’s cards to ensure their participation in the election.

The candidates commended Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar for his sustained contribution to peace and unity in the country while reiterating call on their supporters to live in peace with one another before, during and after the election.
