An inter-agency Task Force Committee has been inaugurated in Sokoto to tackle the menace of counterfeit drugs and other unwholesome products.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sokoto state Commissioner of Health, Dr Balarabe Kakale, explained that the taskforce would create awareness and sensitize the public on the dangers of drug abuse.
He said it would also tackle the circulation of substandard and counterfeit medicines.
The commissioner charged members of the committee to discharge their assignment effectively.
He pointed out that the state government set up the task force out of concern for the future of the people, especially youths in the state.
Also speaking Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Almustapha Ottoman stressed the need for all hands to be on deck towards ensuring the success of the exercise.
The committee has members from the Ministry of Health, voluntary organizations, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NAFDAC, Military, NSCDC and Police, among others.
