Sokoto donates N13.6m, grains to victims of bandits’ attacks

The Sokoto State government has donated N13.6 million to victims of bandits’ attack in Goronyo Local Government Area of the state. Five people were reportedly killed in Giyawa village, three in Sabon Garin Dole and four in two other communities at the weekend.

Another four people and several bandits were said to have died in a fierce clash between vigilantes and the miscreants in the early hours of Sunday.

Condoling the bereaved families on Sunday, Governor Ahmed Aliyu said his government would not rest on its oars to end banditry in the state. “No leader will like this kind of thing to be happening in his state.

“We are doing our best and taking measures, which we cannot disclose here to end banditry in our dear state.”

While seeking Allah’s intervention in the matter, the governor donated N500,000 cash and five bags of grains to each of the bereaved families.

He also donated the sum of N200,000 and grains to six people injured during the attacks and each of the 25 people freed recently by the bandits in the communities.

According to Governor Aliyu, the gesture was only to cushion their suffering as no amount of money would compensate for their losses.

Earlier, the Sole Administrator of Goronyo Local Government Council, Kabiru Shehu while narrating their ordeals, said the people of the area were living at the mercy of bandits.

The governor was accompanied by the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and heads of security agencies in the state.

Wamakko also donated N3.2 million to vigilante groups, police and traditional rulers in the area.
