The 16 lawmakers elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Sokoto State House of Assembly were absent at the presentation of certificate of returns to elected members.
The organiser of the event, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC issued Certificates of Return to Sokoto Governor -elect, Aminu Tambuwal, deputy Governor-elect Mannir Dan’iya and lawmakers-elect.
However, lawmakers elected under the platform of the APC for the Sokoto State House of Assembly were absent at the event.
APC won 16 of the 30 constituencies, leaving the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state with 14 seats.
No reason was given why the APC members were not at the Sultan Muhammadu Maccido Institute for Qur’anic and General Studies where the certificates were issued by INEC.
It would be recalled that the party had rejected the result of the Governorship election, alleging irregularities.
The Publicity Secretary of APC, Sambo Bello Danchadi told our reporters that the ongoing attacks on the supporters of the party across the state might be responsible for the decision taken by the lawmakers-elect to shun the event.
“Our members are being attacked by supporters of the ruling party at their houses and public places. This may be the reason they deem it necessary to avoid the event. They will collect their certificate later,” he stated.
Meanwhile Governor Tambuwal who received his certificate of return called on members of the APC to join hands with him to move the state forward.
