Sokoto: APC Adalci rejects endorsement of indirect primaries

The APC Adalci Buhari Sak, Sokoto has rejected the endorsement of indirect party primaries by APC in the state, stressing “this position only perpetuates the old system of bribery and corruption.”

It also stressed that vast majority of APC stakeholders and membership in the state are for direct primaries.

It would be recalled that the Sokoto state Deputy Governor Ahmed Aliyu had last week announced after an APC stakeholders meeting, that the party in the state resolved to adopt indirect primary and consensus as processes to select candidates for positions in the state.

But Chairman, APC Adalci Buhari Sak, Sokoto state, Prof Muhammad Lawal Bashar Saturday asserted: “For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to reiterate the position of the vast majority of APC stakeholders and membership in the state that the only guarantee for a united APC in the state is the sanctity of DIRECT PRIMARIES which will ensure justice for all and stability in the party.”

He pointed out that the era of imposition of candidates and lack of internal party democracy was over.

“It was partly the main reason why the PDP suffered colossal defeat in 2015,” he stated.

According to him, the APC Adalci Buhari Sak and its political associates had petitioned the leadership of APC on dissolution of the state exco which he alleged was illegally constituted by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal before his defection to the PDP.

“Consequently we request the APC NEC led by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to constitute caretaker committee that has representation from all tendencies and groups reflecting the wishes of the people to chart the way forward for the party.”
