SOKOTO: 9% enroll for national ID

Only nine percent of the population of Sokoto State has so far enrolled and got the National Identification Number, the state coordinator, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engineer Garba Balarabe, has disclosed. He also said over 10,000 general multipurpose cards were still unclaimed despite being informed through text messages that their cards were ready.

Balarabe stressed that the federal government had approved the mandatory use of the National Identification Number with full enforcement in January, 2019. He urged government agencies and private organizations to   ensure that their workforce and other legal residents are enrolled into the national identity database.
