Society plans economic conference in Abuja

Nigeria is set to host the 60th annual conference of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) which would focus on the quality of life of people across all sectors.

The body stated this during a press briefing in Abuja.

The conference which would take place from 16-18th of September at Nile University in Abuja is themed “Economic Policies and Quality of Life in Africa”.

The President of NES, Prof Tamunopriye Agiobenebo who was represented by Prof. Sarah Anyawu of Economics Department, University of Abuja, while speaking at the event said          the body has enough internationally known economists and should be appointed into key economic positions in government to participate and contribute to the growth and development of the country.

Speaking on the conference which is in partnership with the Africa Development Bank, he said the event would focus on the quality of life across all sectors.

“The conference would recognized quality of life as indicators of socioeconomic development and would also examine how effectively to track inputs into development-oriented policies, programmes, financing and the corresponding outcomes from these inputs.”

“The theme is chosen to address specific and cross-cutting issues on the governance structure and linkages, macroeconomic and policy issues, finance and institutional constraints and many others.
