Sochima announces departure from Rivers United

Super Eagles fringe goalkeeper, Victor Sochima, has announced his departure from Rivers United, marking the end of an extraordinary three-year chapter with the ‘Pride of Rivers.’

Sochima, 25, joined the club in 2021 from Jigawa Golden Stars and played a crucial role in the team’s successes, culminating in their historic first league title win in 2022.

In his farewell message, Sochima expressed his gratitude to Rivers United for the opportunity to be part of the team’s journey, acknowledging the highs and lows that come with the game.

“The End of an Era… Thank you Rivers United for the wonderful 3 years of…victories… trophies and wonderful experiences…the ups and downs of events are part of the game and we shall all conquer… wishing the club good luck for the future,” Sochima wrote.

“I will always cherish the memories and lessons learned during my time at Rivers United,” Sochima added.

Meanwhile, Finidi George who was appointed Rivers United Technical Adviser shortly after his failed mission with the Super Eagles has since resumed at the club.

The former international winger’s immediate task is to return the ‘Pride of Rivers’ to continental football.

After they crashed out of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup at the quarter-final stage, Rivers United couldn’t garner enough points to go back to the continent.

Enugu Rangers and Remo Stars picked the available tickets to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League while Enyimba and El-Kanemi Warriors will feature in the Confederation Cup.
