Surgery to separate the conjoined twins, who were born in Soba local government area of Kaduna state will be performed in six months, when they are more matured.
The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, Professor Ahmed Bello, disclosed this to Arewa Trust Weekly.
Professor Bello explained that the surgery could not be performed now, as the twins are required to mature to certain age.
He added: “They have to remain with us here for about five to six months. The surgery requires them to attain certain level of maturity before we can decide when and how to separate them. We would do our best to separate them when the time comes.”
It would be recalled that the conjoined twins were born at home in the Kadege area of Tudun Wadan Soba on January 30, 2020.
Initially, they were not taken to a hospital over the inability of the father, Muhammad Bashir, alias Gambo, to raise money to foot the hospital bills.
However, some good Samaritans assisted in evacuating the twins to ABUTH.
Gambo, hopes that well meaning Nigerians would assist with the money that would be required for the surgery.
The mother of the twins, Zainab Sale, is also recuperating after perilous childbirth and the accompanied stress.
