Smugglers ambush patrol vehicle, injure 2

Two officers of the Nigeria Cistoms Service escaped death when suspected smugglers ambushed their patrol vehicles at Ilaro in Ogun State yesterday. The officers were among a team escorting seized bags of rice allegedly smuggled into the county from Benin Republic.

Three of the smugglers were arrested, and sources said it took a combined team of soldiers and policemen to arrest the situation. Those arrested are now helping security operatives to get other members of the gang.

Abdullahi Maiwada, spokesman of the Customs Service in Ogun State who confirmed the attack said the unjured were being treated in a hospital.
