SMEDAN trains 153 entrepreneurs in Katsina

The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has trained 153 young entrepreneurs from 34 LGAs of Katsina State on entrepreneurship development.

The 5-day training, which was conducted by Al-Zaimar Ltd, drew 51 participants from each of the three senatorial districts of the state to equip young entrepreneurs and those with business interest with basic skills.

Speaking with Arewa Trust at the end of the training, Katsina SMEDAN manager, Shuaibu Shehu Muhammad, said the programme was one of the capital projects of the agency captured under the 2020 budget which will run until December.

“This is because research has shown that a lot of people, especially up north, try to do businesses without basic knowledge, and in most cases such businesses crash,” he said.

He said many existing businesses have suffered under the COVID-19 pandemic, hence the need to encourage people to run businesses they can handle with the little resources at their disposal.

The SMEDAN boss called on all small and medium scale business holders to take advantage of the ongoing SMEs mass registration taking place across the country, adding that registration was free.

One of the beneficiaries of the training, Muhammad Abubakar Zumunta, said he learnt a lot from the programme and promised to share the knowledge with other members of his youth organization.

Also, Khadija Ibrahim, said the programme would go a long way in helping her boost her poultry business.
