The convener of the Nigeria Skits Industry Festival and Awards, Bimbo Daramola, has said many Nigerian youths are gainfully employed and also creating employment through skits.

Rising from taking video pictures off their phones and mobile devices, skit makers now have modern production equipment and editing suites, where a lot derive their livelihood and feed their families from.

Some of the popular skit makers in Nigeria are Broda Shaggi, Taooma, Brain Jotter, Cute Abiola, Pastor Remote, Nas Boy, Lasisi Elenu, Bae U, Ikorodu Bois and Woli Agba, among others.

Daramola stated that the huge usage of data in Nigeria today is also traceable to the exponential growth in the number of Nigerians who are skit makers and have been taken off the streets.

In recognition of the creativity and efforts put in by this set of people, Daramola had planned the maiden edition of Nigeria Skits Industry awards, which was initially scheduled to hold on December 12, 2021, but was postponed due to the death of the creative director and vice chairman of the Awards Council, Mr Joshua Olorunfemi.

“This is the minimum we can do for such a good and resourceful man who gave all of himself to this initiative. Indeed, on his sickbed he was still churning out designs and giving his intelligent input. He would be sorely missed. One assurance is that the logo of this project, alongside the entire idea, will forever be part of the enduring statements and contributions of this great Nigerian,” Daramola said.
