The Traditional Sports Federation of Nigeria (TSFN) has selected six athletes for the 8th ECOWAS Wrestling tournament in Senegal.
The federation’s Secretary, Etim Udokang, disclosed this in an interview yesterday in Abuja, adding that the selection was done at the national trials in Bayelsa.
Udokang said the trial was for the senior men’s team to represent Nigeria in the tournament.
He listed the athletes selected to include, Arasafa Zeinweritein, Ekerekemel Agiomor, Melvin Bibo, Robert Daufa, Sinivie Boltic and Sunday Opiah.
Udokang said the team was currently in camp in Yenagoa and would arrive in Abuja on May 8 to depart for Senegal on May 9.
He said that Nigeria was currently ranked No. 3 in the region and would strive to improve on the ranking at the tournament holding from May 12 to May 14.
He added that the country would feature in five categories at the tournament and listed them as 66kg, 76kg, 86kg, -100kg and +100kg.
Udokang said that the country was the best in these categories it entered for and expressed the hope that it would surpass the host country, Senegal that was always number one. (NAN)
