Six vehicles burnt in Lagos multiple accidents

No fewer than six vehicles including two tankers, two trailers, among others were burnt Saturday in a multiple accident at the popular Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The multiple accidents which happened in the early hours of yesterday inward Berger, resulted in an inferno which destroyed the vehicles.

However, the quick response of the emergency responders especially the Lagos State Fire Service however prevented the explosion of another tanker carrying 45,000 litres of diesel.

Daily Trust reports that the accident disrupted vehicular movement along the ever busy expressway with gridlock extending beyond Alapere.

When our correspondent visited the scene, emergency responders including the Lagos Fire Service, the state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the state Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Police, among others were evacuating the wreckages amidst long stretches of traffic gridlock.

The Acting Controller, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, who spoke at the incident scene, said the agency received the fire alert at about 2:15 a.m.

She said an action was immediately taken with the deployment of two fire engines and crew members to combat the situation.

The Fire boss further explained that on arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the fire had already affected two 45, 000-litre tankers conveying diesel and two flatbed trailers with one carrying a 40ft container, one Mazda car and one container truck.
