Six people have reportedly died in a river after the boat they were travelling in capsized near Fada village in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP. Catherine Anene, said on Thursday that the incident occurred at 1:00pm on Tuesday.

She said that the ill-fated boat was conveying 40 persons from Guma LGA to Buruku LGA for business activities when it capsized around Fada village in Guma.
“Combined efforts of the police and fishermen in the area led to the rescue of twenty six (26) persons who were taken to a hospital for treatment, six (6) corpses have been recovered while a search for the remaining eight (8) persons is on going.
“The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP. Wale Abass, commiserates with families and friends of the dead while advising travellers who choose water transport to employ maximum safety measures while travelling on water especially now that the volume of water is very high,” Anene stated.
