Hoodlums on Wednesday morning in some locations in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, reportedly set ablaze a car and two motorcycles to enforce compliance with the sit-at-home order issued by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (lPOB).
The sit-at-home was declared as the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who was billed to appear in court on Wednesday to answer charges of treason and terrorism filed against him by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Our correspondent who went round the state capital observed that banks, schools and some private business owners didn’t open for business.
The hoodlums, suspected to be members of lPOB, came on motorbikes.
The attacks happened at Hilltop Road near the former state office of the DSS.
A witness said the hoodlums also beat up the owners of the car and motorcycles.
But the police spokesman, DSP Loveth Odah, said the vehicle caught fire due to overheating and not as a result of an attack by hoodlums.
She also said she was not aware of the incidents including the burnt motorbikes.
