The Board of Trustees of the 2018 Governor Henry Seriake Dickson Football Tournament has appointed a former Nigeria international and Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia as ambassador of grassroots football competition.
This was contained in a letter, dated 7 May, 2018, which was made available to sport writers in Yenagoa, and signed by the Director-General of the Organizing Committee of the competition, Mr Ono Akpe.
Akpe noted that with the appointment, Siasia is expected to serve as a role model and mentor to upcoming players in the state.
He said that his international exposure will be an added advantage to the exercise of discovering and developing football talents at the grassroots.
The competition which was initiated in 2015 is the brain-child of the Bayelsa State Government and supervised by the Bayelsa State Football Association with the support of other private sectors.
The tournament is always used to discover football talents to be engaged by Bayelsa United Football Club and other professional football clubs.
Besides that, the competition is aimed at fostering peaceful and harmonious relationship among the communities in the state as well as stimulating youth empowerment and enhancing grassroots development.
