The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has called on officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to shun any form of discrimination in the discharge of their duties.

General Buratai also called on other Nigerians to be their brothers’ keeper and live in the spirit of togetherness, adding that the country could only be developed through cooperation among them.

General Buratai represented by major general Oluwasuen Olayinka (rtd) made the call on Thursday during commissioning of some intervention projects including multi-purpose cooperative society within Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Rukuba Barrack, Jos.

He said, “We should always show the spirit of cooperation. We need to be one. We need to appreciate one another and we need to cooperate with one another. That must always be observed before any development”

He also urged the troops to join Military Cooperative Society in their respective barracks so as to better their lives during and after service.

He said though what the soldiers were earning might be sufficient to satisfy all their needs, the cooperative would undoubtedly go a long way to help them meet other needs.

“Cooperative is very important to sustenance of life. We want officers and soldiers to take an awareness campaign to their friends and colleagues to subscribe to the programme in order to achieve the desired goal. The programme will enhance their lives,” he said.

Earlier in his address, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General Nuhu Angbazo, represented by Chief of Staff of the division, Brig General Idowo Akinlawon appreciated the efforts of General Buratai for intervening in some projects within the barracks.

He said, “The project will enhance better standard of living and improve their means of livelihood.”
