ShopRite partners RFCA for free breast cancer in Nigeria

ShopRite Nigeria has partnered Run For a Cure Africa (RFCA) to organise a free breast cancer screenings in all six regions of the country.

The Big Pink Fight screenings gives women access to clinical breast exams, ultrasound scans and mammograms. Some 5000 women have since benefited from these screenings taking place annually.

Speaking on the importance of the exercise to the nation’s health care system,  Founder and Executive Director of RFCA, Dr Ebele Mbanugo, said: “The early detection of the disease is a crucial factor in its successful treatment, however, the sad reality in Nigeria 75 percent of breast cancer cases are diagnosed too late, when treatment is prohibitively expensive and survival rates greatly diminished.”
