Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan yesterday stunned Heartland of Owerri 3-1 to record their first away win in the ongoing Nigeria Premier League season, as FC IfeanyiUbah played a goalless draw against league leaders Sunshine Stars in the second match of the double header in the Week 22 games decided at the Rojenny stadium Oba.
The game between Heartland and Shooting Stars was shifted to yesterday following heavy downpour on Sunday with game in the 26th minute.
It was a tale of contrasting fortunes for two debutants as goalkeeper Danladi Isah on his debut inspired Shooting Stars to a 3-1 win over hosts Heartland who themselves had a debutant Fortune Omoniwari scoring their consolation goal.
Shooting Stars went in front on 36 minute, courtesy of Tope Orelope’s strike from outside the area. The in-form midfielder pounced on the ball after Cletus Itodo’s effort was blocked by a Heartland defender to net his third goal in two games.
In Port-Harcourt, a late goal in the last seconds of the five additional minutes was all it took Sharks FC to share the spoils with Rangers International at the Sharks Stadium.
The game was also suspended due to water-logged pitch caused by heavy downpour on Sunday and resumed from the 80th minute yesterday morning.
Both teams came out early to shake off tired legs and went straight at each others’ jugular on resumption determined to get something from the game as Rangers maintained their slim 1-0 lead from Bobby Clement’s goal a day earlier and Sharks had to at least get a goal to level things.
