The incident which according to investigation is the first of its kind in the area has heightened tension and forced residents to engage in intensive prayer campaign seeking divine intervention to expose those behind the murder of the businessman. Weekly Trust gathered that there is bewilderment over the motive of his killing for he was not in any known discontent with others nor was he involved in any political or other activities that may warrant the termination of his life.

Many residents described the late Ibrahim Abubakar as a simple, gentle and amiable businessman whose main occupation was to receive customers who went to his popular Hamdala Supermarket. So far, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dan’Azuni Doma, while confirming the incident to newsmen, disclosed that three people have been arrested in connection with the incident and said the police are still intensifying their investigation.

The deceased was also described as a great philanthropist who was very generous and hardly ever quarrelled with anyone and could not in fact hurt a fly due to his levelheadedness. Our correspondent gathered that he closed shop as usual on that fateful day before heading for his home in Unguwar Tirkawa Quarters only to walk into the hands of the suspected assassins who reported waited for and attacked him with all kinds of dangerous weapons. Weekly Trust was informed that his wrist was broken, including many other parts of his body.

An eyewitness and brother of the deceased revealed that he and two of his friends were sitting in front of their house when they suddenly heard the shout of Ibrahim for help, but as they made for the scene, a powerful flash of light forced them back and they saw a group of able-bodied men hitting the businessman from all angles and threatened to kill any one of them who dared to go closer, thereby leaving them with no option than to take to their heels.

The hoodlums numbering about 15, according to him, escaped through nearby farms and left the deceased in a pool of his blood. They, however, didn’t take any of his belongings and were alleged to have refused monetary offers by their unsuspecting victim, a source in the family revealed. He was rushed to a nearby hospital alive but died 30 minutes, that is, about 12.30am on Monday.

Weekly Trust gathered that it was shortly after his burial at Charanchi Central cemetry that a controversy was started by one member of a religious sect in the area who addressed the crowd after the prayer and insinuated a disagreement between the deceased and some members of another sect invariably pointing accusing fingers at the latter where he said the village head of the area once brokered peace between the parties over the alleged dispute.

This insinuation, according to our correspondent’s findings, has added another dimension to the killing. However, CP Doma, was not categorical about the identity of those arrested in connection with the incident as he only said three people have been arrested. He reiterated his Command’s determination to get to the root of the matter in due course.

The village head of the area, Galadiman Charanchi, Alhaji Muhammadu Abdulkadir Rimi flayed the rumour being spread which he said will incite discord among the people and pleaded with the people to stay calm and allow constituted authorities to do their investigative job on the matter. He said prayers have been intensified to unravel those behind the murder.

Father to the deceased, Malam Abubakar Charanchi told Weekly Trust that the family will not relent in their prayer to seek for over their slain breadwinner who had been assisting the family immensely and prayed that the Almighty should protect the three wives and ten children he left behind.
