The absence of President Muhammadu Buhari at the funeral of General Ibrahim Attahiru has set social media, especially Twitter, on fire.
Attahiru and 10 military men died in an air crash that occurred in Kaduna on Friday evening.

The deceased officers were laid to rest at the Military National Cemetery in Abuja on Saturday.
But while top government functionaries were in attendance, it was a no show for the president.
While some described it as a shock, others said it shows that Nigeria is not worth dying for.
Below are some Twitter reactions
Your President could fly abroad for whatever reasons but, can't attend the burial of his most senior officer. Someone he personally appointed!
WHY IS BUHARI COY OF NIGERIANS?
Fellow citizens, there's something someone isn't saying to us!

The absence of those who appointed the COAS (during his funeral) shows the country is without leadership and rudderless, and headed for a collision…

Here’s Putin attending a military funeral, drenched. But Buhari couldn’t attend COAS, Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru’s burial. At least to boost the morale of the army. Bayo must have felt really sad, he missed an opportunity to give Bubu one of those crisp clear photos. What a loss. pic.twitter.com/QBDjsTns6w

Sad that General @MBuhari did not attend the burial of the late Chief of Army Staff, General Attahiru. He was represented by his Defence Minister. Attahiru died serving Nigeria. Buhari, who went to Paris for 4 days, could not go to Attahiru’s funeral for 30 minutes#TableShaker

Buhari who’s the President & C-in-C of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria couldnt attend the burial of his Chief of Army staff (COAS) who died on official duty. But if a Female goat belonging to Queen Elizabeth gives birth, Buhari will attend the naming ceremony

As if the death of Army Chief Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru & other officers isn't tragic enough, C-in-C Buhari refused to attend their burial. Lesson 101: Die for Nigeria, die in vain. pic.twitter.com/SJ06CqAuB6

This funeral of former Chief of Army staff held in Abuja, Buhari and his VP Osinbajo were absent.
The most irresponsible govt in the history of this country.— Somto Onuchukwu (@chosensomto) May 22, 2021
On the 7th of November 2016, the bodies of soldiers were brought in from Borno to be buried in Abuja. The whole nation was grieving these heroes killed alongside their leader Lt Col Abu Ali, Muhammadu Buhari on that day callously chose to go to Edo State and campaign for votes! https://t.co/EbSxGM6X5w

When we called out the irresponsibility in 2016 many attacked us. Buhari is enabled by many here to keep behaving badly. https://t.co/OEqABvNqVD

Buhari can fly to France but can’t attend the funeral of COAS who lost his life in a plane crash?
Heartless 😢

What is Buhari doing in Presidential Villa, Aso Rock that is more important than attending the funeral of not just a professional colleague, but the Commander of his Army?
— Emmanuel Nwachukwu (@EmmaNwachukwu_) May 22, 2021
Buhari by his conduct does not want his Govt to succeed. So, praying for him to succeed is a waste of time.

GEJ at late Gen. Aziza funeral and Russian President drenched under rain while attending the funeral of fallen heroes and Buhari picking his teeth in the Villa while his Chief of army staff and other generals are being buried. Nigeria Ntoor!💔💔 pic.twitter.com/ngPAgsG8XI

If President Buhari can travel all the way to France, one of the COVID hot spot zones in Europe, then justifying his absence during the burial of late Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru, Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff using COVID protocols, doesn’t hold water.

I had expected that President Buhari would address the nation today as a mark of respect for the tragic demise of the COAS and other gallant soldiers that died yesterday serving Nigeria. He is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces but he didn't even attend the burial.
