Nigeria’s government deems promotion of investments and securing of investors’ interest as top priority to economic growth and sustainability, both the Minister for Communication, Barrister Adebayo Shittu and the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, have said.
The two top officials stated this at the just ended Africa Investment Forum during the 36th edition of the Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX 2016) in Dubai, UAE.
Nigeria still leads the rest of the continent in terms of market size and huge population while the ICT sector has continued to expand in GDP value with increasing interest in government to promote the sector as a non-oil export, said Shittu to an international audience that drew participants from more than 40 countries.
Reiterating Shittu’s position in an earlier statement to kick-start the Forum, Dr Ibrahim Pantami said global interest in Nigeria’s ICT sector is underscored also by the huge population of young talented Nigerians increasingly becoming a force in the global startups ecosystem. He said this informed why the NITDA sponsored 16 startups to the GITEX to be part of the inaugural Global Startup Movement/Innovation Hub at GITEX 2016.
