Students of Shining Star Academy, Kubwa, Abuja, have won the EducationUSA Annual Martin Luther King Performing Arts Contest.

They beat other students in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with their 10-minute video on social injustice, child abuse, injustice and other issues the late activist stood for in the United States of America.

One of the 22 students that produced the video, Moyosore Oluwa Tunji-Akeju, said though the production was cumbersome, the stress paid off.

She said the win gives all the participating students a better chance of securing admission into tertiary institutions in the United States should they decide to further their education in the states.

She said it was challenging shooting the video during the COVID-19 lockdown as it took the students about four weeks to produce the 10-minute video that clinched the award but commended the school management for supporting the project.

Another student that acted in the video, Sarah Salako, said her participation helped to sharpen her acting talents.

“I want to become an actress. I love acting. I saw this competition as an opportunity for me to send a message to the world about my talent,” she said.
