Shi’ite leader, Kassim dies at 50

The leader of the Shi’ite group in Sokoto State who was allegedly shot by the police during one of their free-Zakzaky campaign in Abuja, Malam Kasim Umar, has died.

He died on Monday at a hospital in Kano, his son Muhammad Qassim Umar posted on his Facebook page.

Umar, who was 50 years old, was said to be leading the procession when he got shot on the leg.

Similarly, one of the leading members of the group, Malam Sidi Mannir confirmed the death to our reporter, even as he appealed to their members to remain calm and to continue praying for the deceased.

“He died as a martyr. We are thanking God for that and pray for the repose of his soul,” he said

According to him, the remains of the deceased would be buried today Wednesday in Sokoto.e deceased has survived by one wife and four children.
