On October 2, President Tinubu departed Abuja for the United Kingdom for a two-week vacation, part of his yearly leave.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had said “He will use the two weeks as a working vacation and a retreat to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms.”

Before the President returned to the country, the Vice President also travelled on a 2-day visit to Sweden.

Stanley Nkwocha, Spokesman to the Vice President, in a statement said Shettima would engage in high-level bilateral talks with key government officials, including a meeting with Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and the Swedish Prime Minister.

On October 19, 2024, the President returned to the country after a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom (UK) and France.

Tinubu had asked Shettima to lead Nigerian delegation to Commonwealth Summit in Samoa, but he could not make it as a result of an incident which led to the grounding of his aircraft for repair in New York.

Shettima had returned to Nigeria while a delegation of ministers attended the summit.
