A former governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima, Wednesday declared his support for the proposed establishment of two health institutions in his state.

The proposed institutions are a College of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Science, Chibok and a Federal Medical Centre, Gwoza, Borno State.

Shettima spoke in Abuja Wednesday during a public hearing organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Health Institutions on bills seeking to establish 10 health institutions in the country.

He described the move as welcome development, saying the institutions, when established, would boost healthcare services in the areas and create job opportunities.

He said Chibok, Gwoza and Damboa are among the areas that had not enjoyed federal presence for a long time.

He said establishing a healthcare training institution in Chibok would send a strong message to the Boko Haram elements that their mission of stopping acquisition of western education in the area had failed.
